When Apple announced their RoomPlan API in June 2022, my team at Block Renovation immediately saw the potential to use AR room scanning technology to bridge the physical and digital aspects of planning for a renovation. We quickly shipped a standalone iOS app where homeowners could scan their room and immediately see a new design applied to their space, primarily used as a lead generation tool.
While the standalone app successfully generates low cost, high intent leads, it also requires immense effort internally to generate and maintain the 3D assets used. As a long-term use for RoomPlan technology, we began to explore how it might streamline traditionally manual processes required in the pre-construction phase of a project.
